Free Solo Tree Climb!

  • 1120 Southwest Council Crest Drive Portland, OR, 97239 United States (map)

When was the last time you climbed a tree?

Exactly! Which is why this year we're getting out every 2nd Friday April through October to reintroduce you to the arboreal playground and allow you the space to safely explore your limits & progress into an optimized functional baseline of calisthenic strength!

What to expect:
Each attendant whether spectator, participant, or professional athlete is required to sign the jotform waiver. This event is a no-cost jugment-free community inclusive all ages, strength, and skill levels encouraged event!

Our destination is a grove of trees at the highest elevation point in Portland, known as Council Crest Park. The 4 trees recommended for beginners will be marked with a purple band around the lowest branches, and we will focus our time and attention there.

We will begin with a briefing of safety tips, climbing etiquette, and a strong encouragement to take things VERY slowly and cautiously when attempting anything from a gentle stretch out to a full on arboreal ascent!

As we explore our personal ranges of motion and limitations of strength in a group setting, each participant has the option of receiving a professional assessment and action plan for a personalized approach to progression from where they're at to where they want to be, whatever that looks like, upon request.

**The shoulder girdle is the most commonly injured area of the body, and developing the flexibility and strength combo to hang comfortably and confidently takes more time the longer it's been since you've done it! By attending, you'll learn as much as you can retain about how to bulletproof the shoulders, top-tier self-care methods for recovery, and you can receive individual assessment on recommendations to begin your progressive journey to optimal shoulder health.**

WHAT TO BRING

- Gloves!!! An absolute must! Tree bark is unrelentingly coarse.

- 1+ Liter water bottle also a must!! Hydration CANNOT be overemphasized when it comes to opening the muscles, joints, ligaments, and overall fascia of the body. No water = high likelihood of injury!

- Long sleeves and pants with durable no-snag fabric (denim works well, athletic wear not so much. Dress appropriately for the level of activity you plan on participating in. If you're wanting to make an ascent you're gonna want all the scratch resistance and dust protection you can get.)

- Goodwill and manners. Being pleasant is always a pleasant way to be. We are pleasant people.

WHAT TO LEAVE

- smiles
- a cleaner park
- limiting beliefs
- old ways of being that no longer serve you
