FAQ

  • We’re not “in network” for health insurance billing, though we CAN process billing for auto insurance and workers comp injury claims, also known as PIP (Personal Injury Protection) insurance, which in the state of Oregon is $15,000+ per claim.

  • Yup, we’re happy to accept that, and we can supply as many receipts of service as necessary to appease the requirements of your employer to keep it going.

  • Not exactly—but I get the spirit of that request.
My work is clinical in intent and therapeutic in depth, but delivered with care, presence, and pacing. If you’re looking for light, relaxing touch, I adjust the pressure to what your nervous system can receive—but I don’t do the “lotion petting” style you sometimes find under the label “Swedish.”
That said, clients who typically dislike deep tissue often love my work. Why? Because I work with the body, not against it. If you’re unsure, choose “pay later” at checkout—if it’s not a good fit, you won’t be charged.

  • Nope. The pressure matches your breath, your tissue tone, and what your nervous system can safely metabolize. Deep isn’t about pushing hard—it’s about creating space for real change. Sometimes that looks like stillness, not force.

  • Absolutely. Just let me know what kind of experience you’re hoping for, and I’ll adapt the session to support that. Even my most clinical work is delivered with a calm, grounded energy—and the vibe of the space is built for relaxation.

  • Then you don’t pay. It’s that simple. I offer a “pay later” option so new clients can book without worry. If it’s not a match, no hard feelings and no charge. This is a space built on trust and communication.

  • Individuals that regularly persevere the rigorous gauntlet of testosterone, whether by force of nature or force of will, are considered men to this business.

  • While many bodyworkers and massage therapists work exclusively with women and femmes, there's an apparent absence of exclusive spaces for men in the bodywork industry. Wake Massage is a beacon for those who seek quality professional care in a safe masculine space, and our expertise is best fulfilled in the space of men's work.

There’s a lot of stigma around masculine conduct, and within the gay community, there’s unfortunately a regular occurrence of impropriety and sexual exploitation which contributes to the invalidation of professionalism in the massage industry. Wake Massage is dedicated to working with men of all orientations, leading through professional therapeutic conduct and compassionate understanding to help correct the social standard and serve as a place for personal growth, not personal gratification.

  • No, actually! Anyone is free to book an appointment with us, though as a single owner/operator business, we request that non-male clients seriously consider the membership option after their first visit. Our focus is dedicated to working with men. Read “Why for men” above if you’re wondering why.

Wake Massage has long-term monthly members of all genders and sexes, and we're grateful for their continued support through this period of "niche-ing down" and focusing on working more intently with men going forward.

  • Look, as the "A" in this acronym soup, there's a lot of gray area in the community, and things can get dicey REAL quick, so here's the real real: what's inside is what matters most of a person. Period.

The complex and vast spectrum of identities are all valued and valid, and I I recognize body parts are interchangeable and modifiable. In short, people who persevere the rigorous gauntlet of testosterone are men in my eyes, and that’s who Wake Massage is focused on providing support for.

  • No. Wake Massage provides therapeutic connection, client education, and compassionate care for personal growth — not personal gratification.

Many of my clients are gay men, and I’m aware of the ways massage has been sexualized within that context. Part of my mission is to help redefine what safe, non-sexual, nurturing touch can look like — especially for men who may have only experienced it conditionally.

This space is about respect, trust, and long-term wellbeing. Not flirtation, suggestion, or seduction.

Agreements Policy

The Massage Therapist agrees to:
Communicate clearly, create a judgment-free zone where openness is treated with reverence, facilitate healing through a highly present quality of touch, anticipate needs and non-verbal cues, and to confirm the client’s consent with changing pressures, methods, and tools.

The Client agrees to:
Show up on time, practice non-judgment, make their needs known, advocate for themselves, follow through with in-session direction (like intentional breathing), and take their continued care into consideration with the recommended “homework assignments”.

24-Hr Cancellation/ Rescheduling Policy

All appointments booked require a current card on file. If an appointment is canceled for any reason within any timeframe, there is a $63 fee, though we allow up to two reschedulings at no extra cost.

If the appointment is canceled with less than 24-hours ‘til the appointment, the client will be charged the full price of the service. The exception to the fee is if the session is rescheduled 24+ hours ahead of time, and not more than twice (2x). If rescheduling happens with less than 24 hours notice, the client will be charged the $63 fee.
